National Hiking Day

May 1st is a holiday here in Germany and this year I discovered that it’s the day when everyone goes for a walk. The plan was to meet with our bible study group for breakfast at our house in Montabaur and then to walk about 15 km through the forest to Franzi’s house in Gackenbach for a Barbeque there.

- 9 and 1/2 people over for breakfast
At 11:00 after having enjoyed a good meal and thoroughly discussing the proper way to eat peanut butter we were on the road and ready for the hike in front of us.

I wasn’t sure about the whole hiking idea, but once we got started, it turned out to be a lot of fun. The Western Forest where we live is really beautiful and it was good to spend the day enjoying the nature around us and getting to know the people in our bible study group a little better.

Manuela and Sarah-Johanna before the big hill
The fifteen kilometers seemed a lot longer by the end, especially since the last 800 meters were up a steep hill. (And this happened to be Manuela’s turn to carry little Sarah-Johanna.)
But in the end we arrived in Gackenbach and enjoyed a great barbeque and a few games of Kubb until later into the evening.

God truly blessed us with the perfect weather and I think we will all remember the day for a long time.

Hi Danny and Manuela,
It’s great to hear from you. This format makes it so easy to communicate, even if it is a short note. A 15 km walk sounds like a great point of exercise. God for you. You completed it.
We are well. We just arrived back from Vancouver last Sunday night. We flew out to Calgary the Sunday before on the early flight by
Air Canada. Guess who was sitting in the seat next to us. What a surprise. It was your sister, Danny. Wendy was there with her dear little Natalie. We really enjoyed this very special God appointment. We really didn’t know her well, so we had lots of time to get acquainted. That was
an unexpected God appointment. Keep well both of you. God is so good, isn’t He. We look forward to your next report.
With love from Mary-Lou Hanna
